The Burnsville Speech Team was established in 2018 for the purpose of developing and elevating student voices. Speech is an activity that encourages students to think critically about the issues of the world and what their voice can do to address these issues. Whether it is performing a 10-minute monologue on the impacts of discrimination or writing an original speech on the effects of specific public policy, our students have something to say.
Our team values are clear. Speech is for everyone. We engage with the world respectfully and through curiosity. We stand against hate and injustice. We focus on what we control and see success as the development of new skills and knowledge. Every member of our team, from students to coaches to judges, are expected to uphold these values.
Meet the Coaches
Brendan Klein | Head Coach
Brendan has coached with Burnsville Speech since 2019. He competed in Original Oratory, Discussion, and Congressional Debate for three years with Bloomington Speech. Brendan qualified and competed in the 2015 National Speech and Debate Tournament in Dallas, TX in Congressional Debate. Outside of coaching, Brendan works as a Program Coordinator for College Possible, a college access nonprofit based in St. Paul, MN.

Tayah Bolnick | Assistant Coach
Tayah has coached with Burnsville Speech since 2022. Tayah competed with Burnsville Speech for three years in Discussion and served as a Captain during the 2021-2022 season. Outside of coaching, Tayah enjoys making art and spending time with friends.

Kylie Krick | Assistant Coach
Kylie has coached with Burnsville Speech since 2022. Kylie competed with Burnsville Speech for three years in Informative and Drama and served as a Captain during the 2020-2021 season. Outside of coaching, she is a musician and songwriter. Kylie is studying music education in the upcoming year.
