Fundraiser and Apple Valley Tournament

Fundraiser and Apple Valley Tournament

STUDENTS, READ THIS EMAIL — DON’T JUST SKIM (SHOULDN’T HAVE TOLD ME YOU DON’T READ ALL MY EMAILS HAHA)

Our cub fundraiser is today at the Cub on Travelers Trail! Please be there for your time slot! You can come before your time if you’re scheduled for the 6:00pm slot but please have plans for a ride at 9:00pm! I have our team t-shirts for you to pick up when you get there! Wear them Monday to school and tell all your classmates to eat at the Chipotle on 42!

The tournament tomorrow is at Apple Valley HS. We are split up between varsity and novice again so everyone not in extemp speaking will be at Falcon Ridge MS. There are novice final rounds at this tournament so be prepared for that! You’ll be bussed to the high school for awards and we’ll depart from there to BHS. Please meet at BHS at 7:00 am tomorrow! You all have done a fantastic job of not being late so keep that up please! My guess is that we’ll be back around 6:00pm again!

Parents, please sign up for judging positions! We’re still missing a lot of spots. It’s a great way to get involved in speech!

I’m probably missing a lot of information in this email but to be honest, I’m sneaking writing this email in a lecture so that’s where we’re at! Let me know if you have any questions!

See you at the fundraiser tonight!
Katherine

Email: Eden Prairie, Fundraising, and Social Media

Hi All!
Our tournament this weekend is at Eden Prairie HS! Thank you to the parents who have signed up for judging! We still need a lot more judges for the season so please check your calendars and consider spending a day helping us out! You can sign up using this link! Judging Sign Up.

I wanted to make a note that all speech tournaments are open to the public. If you want to come see your student perform, you are very welcome to (with their permission first – don’t make them more nervous)!
Schedule Saturday
6:50 am – meet at BHS
9:00 am – Round 1
10:30 am – Round 2
12:00 pm – Round 3
2:20 pm – Finals
Awards were not scheduled a time but I would expect that would start between 4 and 4:30. If you watch rounds or are judging, I suggest you DON’T go to awards. They are the longest event in human history. Ask your kid – there is little exaggeration here.

6:00 pm – Home

I would expect to get back to BHS around 6 but I can’t guarantee anything with that. I’ll have students call for rides about 10-15 minutes out from the school.

Fundraising
We’ve got fundraisers coming up! NEXT Friday is our Cub fundraiser! Students are required to sign up for a time slot unless they have a prior conflict that they discuss with me. Cub Fundraiser Sign Up

A week from Monday (February 4) is our Chipotle fundraiser!! Get everyone you’ve ever met to eat at Chipotle that night between 4 and 8 and say they’re with Burnsville Speech! A quick reminder on that: online orders don’t count… 🙁

Social Media
We have a few students who were interested in running our social media pages for our speech team this year so we now have both an instagram and a twitter! follow us @burnsvillespeechteam on instagram and @bhsspeechteam on twitter! I’ll be tweeting out live results from the tournaments if you’d like to follow us! We have plans for a FB page so be patient on that!

See? They’re getting shorter! (I’m probably forgetting something…)

So let me know if you have any questions!

Speech Website
The first thing I want to address is that we now have A SPEECH WEBSITE! Thank you to Scott Scheldberg for going above and beyond and creating this for us! You’ll find that all the information I send out in emails will be posted on this website soon after so save this in your bookmarks! www.burnsvillespeechteam.com Currently, there is our tournament schedule on there along with general information on the team and of course our awesome logo!

Mock Tournament Recap (1/11/19)
For those of you that attended, GREAT JOB! I’m so proud of you all! You were professional, energized, and great competitors! I got MANY compliments from LNHS coaches about you all! Let’s continue that attitude throughout the season! I also want to thank all the parents that helped out with our potluck after! The enthusiasm this team and its parents have for speech is just fantastic! I’m very excited for the rest of the season!

Chanhassen Tournament (1/19/19)
As you all know, our first official tournament is this Saturday at Chanhassen HS. Unless you have already told me you will be absent, you are required to be there. The bus will leave from BHS at 6:30 am. I know it’s early but it’s a longer drive and we need to be prepared for bad weather or traffic. Please show up ready to go with your suit on, hair and makeup done, and a lunch. DON’T FORGET A LUNCH! There are concessions available for purchase but you’re going to get real sick of chips and hotdogs this season if you plan on that every Saturday. It’s a long day and protein is your friend! If you were not at the Mock Tournament last Friday, you need to bring your suit in this week to get it approved (looking at you YIG kids).

This is also your reminder that we have a team meeting on Thursday after school like we will every tournament week. This is my third reminder about team meetings.

Judging Sign-Up
There is a judging sign up with Sign Up Genius for the rest of the season! We need 4 judges for every tournament otherwise it’s $100 per judge we don’t provide… Judging can seem daunting for those who haven’t done it before but it’s designed to be straight forward and simple! We’ll be hosting another Judging 101 session Friday at 4pm for those of you interested. Please respond to this email if you will be attending. You need to be available for all rounds throughout the day to be able to judge. You can leave early if you aren’t scheduled for a final round but you need to be available for that possibility. Judging typically starts at 9 and ends at 3:30.

T-Shirts and Swag
Thanks to Elizabeth’s awesome logo design, we’re going to have really awesome t-shirts this year! Colors for the t-shirts and sweatshirts will be voted for on Thursday at our team meeting! But I have pricing! Long-sleeve t-shirts will be covered for all students. However, if you want the whole family to deck themselves out in BHS Speech swag, they’re $20. Optional purchasing of sweatshirts and sweatpants is available! Hoodies are $40, crew necks are $30, and sweatpants are $30. If you’d like to order one of the above, respond to this email with sizing.

Students, please respond with your t-shirt size. If you don’t respond, default size will be a large.

Fundraising Reminder and Sign-Up
We have a Cub fundraiser February 1st from 3:30 to 9:00 pm! As promised, I have created a sign-up form for students. There are two 3-hour shifts you can sign up for. If you don’t sign up, you better have a good excuse because this is 100% for your benefit and 100% mandatory.
Cub Fundraiser Sign Up

Also, don’t forget that we have a Chipotle fundraiser on February 4th! Get your friends and families to eat there for the night!

New Practice Times
Will be sending out an email later this week for my new practice schedule. Since my spring semester at the U is starting next week, I won’t be able to maintain the same schedule. Consider signing up for a time later in the evening and you’ll receive more one-on-one practice time rather than group practices.
